This is a transitional move, and not one of the pure postures.
Nevertheless, it is a very important posture for grace, balance, and integration of all of the moves.
Note: Whatever side you are facing, that leg is the standing leg, the forward leg, and that hand is on top.
- As weight shifts to forward leg, same arm is forming semicircle to form upper half of ball.
- Lower arm and leg move in together, finishing at the same time.
- Cat Stance
- Weight is in forward leg
- Opposite leg - resting on ball of foot
Foot next to instep of standing leg
- Upper Hand - at throat height - facing down
- Lower Hand - at groin height - facing up
- Elbows relaxed

Transition - Turn Around
This is a transitional move, and not one of the pure postures.
To turn around after Grasp Bird's Tail Left:
- Shift weight to right leg
- As weight is shifting, leave arms extended, allowing palms to face downward
- Lift left toes
- Body begins to turn to 3:00
- Continue turning - left toes come down at 4:00 -
body is now at approximately 5:00 - facing behind you - feet are almost "pidgeon-toed"
- Shift weight to left leg
- As weight is shifting, right arm relaxes, right heel lifts to allow the body & foot to turn further
- Finish in Cat Stance on left side
You are now ready to do Grasp Bird's Tail on the right side
